Many organizations have long run separate web proxies: browsers send web requests to a proxy that authenticates the user, inspects the request and forwards it. PAN-OS 11.x added a web proxy feature on supported platforms so the firewall itself can play that role, helping customers consolidate or migrate off legacy proxy appliances without rebuilding every workflow that assumes a proxy exists. Support depends on the hardware or VM model and the PAN-OS release, so check the compatibility information before planning rather than assuming every firewall can do it.
