Networks are moving from box-by-box manual configuration toward centrally defined, software-driven and identity-aware designs. The Network+ objectives group several of these ideas together because they solve related problems: networks are too big to configure by hand, users and applications are no longer inside one building, and the old idea of a trusted internal network no longer holds. You do not need vendor detail, but you must understand what each concept does, what problem it solves and how to tell them apart.
