Where Path describes a location, the Files class contains static methods that act on the file system. Most throw the checked IOException or a specific subclass, and the exam often asks which exception occurs. Files.exists(path) and Files.notExists(path) test existence; both can return false if the program cannot determine the answer, for example because of permissions. isDirectory, isRegularFile, isReadable, size and isSameFile are other common checks.
