Every Java program has three standard streams, available as static fields of System. System.in is an InputStream connected to standard input, usually the keyboard. System.out is a PrintStream for normal output and System.err is a PrintStream for error messages. Keeping errors on System.err lets users redirect normal output to a file while still seeing errors on screen. System.setOut and System.setIn can reassign these streams, which is useful in tests.
