Foundation models are trained on huge amounts of public data up to a point in time. On their own, they do not know a company's internal policies, product catalog or yesterday's prices, and when they lack information they may produce fluent but incorrect answers, called hallucinations. Business uses of generative AI therefore depend on connecting models to the right data and actions.
