Non-relational databases, often called NoSQL databases, store data in models other than related tables. They became popular for workloads that need a flexible schema, huge scale across many servers or a data model that tables handle awkwardly. As an analyst you may not design them, but you need to recognize each type and know which problem it fits, because data you analyze may come from one.
