A Wi-Fi adapter can only decode Wi-Fi frames. Energy from a microwave oven, a wireless camera or a jammer shows up to a Wi-Fi radio only as noise or a busy channel, and the adapter cannot tell you what it is. A spectrum analyzer measures raw RF energy across a range of frequencies, whatever its source, so it is the tool for finding non-Wi-Fi interference.
