Every Kubernetes object has an apiVersion made of an API group and a version, such as apps/v1 for Deployments or batch/v1 for Jobs. Core objects like Pods, Services and ConfigMaps belong to the core group, written simply v1. APIs mature through alpha (for example v1alpha1), beta (v1beta1) and stable (v1) versions. Beta and alpha versions are eventually deprecated and then removed from the API server. After removal, a manifest that still uses the old version fails to apply, even though the object type itself still exists under a newer version.
