Autoscaling in Kubernetes happens at three levels. The HorizontalPodAutoscaler (HPA) changes the number of replicas. The Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA) changes the requests of each Pod. The Cluster Autoscaler changes the number of nodes. The CKA focuses on the HPA and expects awareness of the other two.
