Stuck Terminating Pods on lost nodes and force deletion

▶ Watch the overview video

Last reviewed September 25, 2026 · Leer en español

Deleting a Pod is normally a conversation. The API server marks the Pod with a deletion timestamp and a grace period, the kubelet on its node stops the containers, sending SIGTERM and later SIGKILL, and then confirms, after which the Pod object is removed. If the node is powered off, partitioned or its kubelet is dead, no confirmation ever comes, and the Pod stays in Terminating indefinitely.
