Physical security protects people, equipment and data from harms that no firewall can stop: intruders, theft, vandalism, fire, flood and accidents. The CISSP treats it as a design problem rather than an afterthought. The cheapest and most effective moment to secure a facility is before it is built, bought or leased, because moving a server room or adding a second entrance later is expensive. Above every other consideration sits one rule: human safety comes first. No physical control is acceptable if it traps people during an emergency.
