You cannot protect what you do not know you have. Asset identification builds an inventory of information assets, such as databases, file shares, applications, documents, cloud services and the systems that hold them, together with each asset's owner, location, purpose and the business processes that depend on it. The inventory is the foundation for classification, risk assessment, business continuity planning and incident response.
