Testing shows whether a system does what it should, including its controls, before it is trusted with real work. A system that goes live untested can corrupt data, expose information or stop business operations, and fixing problems after go-live costs far more than finding them earlier. The IS auditor's job is to confirm that testing was planned, performed at the right levels, documented and signed off by the right people, and that serious defects were resolved before implementation.
