A topology architecture is the overall shape of a network: which devices connect to which, and what job each layer does. Choosing the right shape determines how well the network scales, how failures are contained and how predictable its performance is. The CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) expects you to recognize the common designs from a description or diagram, name each layer's role, and say when each design fits.
