Edge ports are the switch ports that face end devices, access points and servers, as opposed to the links between switches. Configuring an edge port correctly means deciding which VLAN (virtual LAN) it belongs to, whether it supplies power to the attached device, and, for servers or devices that need more bandwidth and redundancy, whether several ports should be bundled together. The CCNA groups these decisions as edge-port attributes, and a typical exam item shows a port configuration and asks what it will do.
