Mergers, acquisitions and cleanups often require moving users, groups and computers from one domain or forest to another. The Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) is Microsoft's free tool for this. It is an older tool that has not been actively developed for years, but it remains the reference answer for restructuring migrations on the exam. ADMT runs on a member server in the target domain, needs a SQL Server instance for its database, and requires a trust between source and target so it can read the source and write to the target.
