A DNS zone is the portion of the namespace a DNS server is responsible for, such as corp.contoso.com. Windows Server DNS supports several zone types, and which one you choose determines where data is stored, who can change it and how copies stay in sync. You can create forward lookup zones (names to IP addresses) and reverse lookup zones (IP addresses to names, using in-addr.arpa for IPv4).
