Azure DNS hosts DNS (Domain Name System) zones on Microsoft's global network of name servers, so you manage your records with the same tools, role-based access control (RBAC), locks and templates as the rest of Azure. It does not register domain names for you; you buy a domain from a registrar and then host its zone in Azure DNS. There are two kinds of zones: public zones answer queries from the internet, and private zones answer only for virtual networks (VNets) you link to them.
